IBM and sandvik Mining and Rock Technology, one of the largest manufacturers of high-quality mining equipment in the world, are using powerful Internet of Things, advanced analysis and artificial intelligence technologies to achieve safety, maintenance, productivity and operational efficiency.

Mining and rock excavation industries are facing increasing pressure, and it is necessary to increase the global mineral supply to meet the needs and expectations brought about by the rapid growth of the world population. This usually needs to increase the mining depth, which will cause communication difficulties and it is not easy to take measures when the equipment breaks down or needs maintenance.
OptiMine® Analytics transforms data into process improvement through forecasting and operational dashboards embedded in the operation management system. Using the analysis ability of IBM Watson Internet of Things, this information management solution enables mining companies to combine equipment and application data from different sources in real time, analyze the patterns in the data, and help improve availability, utilization and performance.
Through a series of seminars on IBM design thinking, IBM and sandvik worked with customers to develop a framework to shape product solutions around data-driven productivity and predictive maintenance. Using Watson Internet of Things technology, sandvik and IBM jointly created a platform that can meet the strict reliability and safety requirements of mining operations. At the same time, the predictive maintenance technology using sensor data of the Internet of Things is introduced into the platform.
